Jose María (“Chema”) Fernández is founding partner at Aliath Bioventures SL and Managing Partner at AltamarCAM.  He has more than 25 years’ experience as a financial economist. He is Board Director at Inbiomotion, Deepull, Investment Committee member of Alta Life Sciences Spain I FCR and, since 2017, at the Human Immune Project, a project that seeks to decode the human immune system to transform how we diagnose, treat and prevent disease for all people. Prior to joining Altamar, Jose María worked at the Financial Engineering Laboratory of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (Boston) modeling biotech investment risk and financing solutions (https://www.nature.com/articles/nbt.2374).

Jose María´s  background as a financial economist is rich and diverse. He has been General Director of the Treasury at the Spanish Ministry of Economy, Industry and Competitiveness and concurrently a Board member at both the European Investment Bank and CESCE (Spain´s Export Credit Agency). He also worked as a consultant in the Securities Markets, Financial and Private Sector Development Department at the World Bank and as Managing Director at the Debt Capital Markets business for Crédit Agricole Corporate and Investment Bank (London). José María is a State Economist and Trade Expert of the Spanish General Administration, he holds a Master of Business Administration from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, a Master of Finance from the London Business School and a Bachelor of Science in Economics and Business from CUNEF.
